How to Build a DIY TV Console with DAP Canada’s 3 in 1 Premium Wood Filler

If you’re anything like me, a good DIY project isn’t just about function—it’s about the finish. That smooth, seamless look can really elevate a simple build into something custom and high-end. For my latest project, I partnered with DAP Canada to try out their 3 in 1 Premium Wood Filler, and let me tell you—it did not disappoint.

Here’s how I took a basic plywood build and turned it into a professional-looking DIY TV Console, with just a few tools, some paint, and the magic of DAP.

Step 1: Assemble the Main Frame

To keep things beginner-friendly, I had the plywood cut to size at the hardware store—this is such a great option if you don’t have access to large tools or a table saw at home. Once I had my pre-cut pieces, I assembled the main frame using nails to hold everything in place and wood screws to secure the pieces together. This method gives you a strong, reliable structure with minimal effort, and it’s perfect if you’re just getting started with DIY furniture.

Step 2: Add the Back Support Using a French Cleat System

To make hanging the finished console super easy (and totally doable on your own), I used a French cleat system. If you’ve never used one before, it’s simply two pieces of wood cut at a 45-degree angle. One piece gets attached to the back of your frame using pocket holes, and the other is secured directly to the wall. The angled cut allows the two pieces to lock together securely—taking all the guesswork out of hanging. No complicated measuring, no extra hands needed. Just slide it on and you’re done!

Step 3: Fill All Imperfections with DAP’s 3 in 1 Premium Wood Filler

Now for the real star of the show: DAP’s 3 in 1 Premium Wood Filler. This product made the biggest difference in getting a smooth, high-end finish. I used it to fill

• Screw holes

• Knots in the wood

• And even the raw plywood edges for a clean, paint-ready surface

It applies like a dream, dries fast, and sands to a smooth finish—making it perfect for both beginners and experienced DIYers alike.

Step 4: Sand, Prime, and Paint

Once the wood filler was dry, I gave everything a good sand with 220-grit sandpaper. Then I primed the surface and added two coats of paint. Remember to sand between each coat as well. The finish? Flawless. The filled edges looked completely smooth and professional—you’d never guess this started as raw plywood.

The Final Look

Thanks to DAP Canada’s 3 in 1 Premium Wood Filler, my DIY TV Console turned out amazing. Whether you’re patching, edge-finishing, or just want to elevate your next project, this filler is a must-have in your toolbox.

And with the French cleat system, hanging it was a breeze—no stress, no second pair of hands, just a perfect finish from start to install.
